Adventures in Atlanta

Captain Smart had a blast with Ms. Wallace's class. We woke up really early and traveled from Columbia, SC to Atlanta, GA. We visited the World of Coca Cola, ate at the Varsity, went to Atlanta Civil Rights Museum and finished our day at The Georgia Aquarium. We had a blast! Thanks for letting Captain Smart travel with us and we can't wait to see him again soon!!!!

Talking with Ms. Wallace's Class

While visiting with Mrs. Pierce/Mrs. Headland's class, we got to talk to Ms. Wallace's class through the computer yesterday. It was very cool to hear all the kids talk about things they do to give to others and be kind...They had great ideas.

Today, I'm traveling to South Carolina so I can attend a field trip with Ms. Wallace's class to Atlanta! I am so excited that I get to go with them!

BETT London 2017

This past weekend, I got to go with Mr. to BETT, which is a Technology Conference for teachers in London! Check out what I saw:

I got to play with some computers and play SMART board games with Mr. Hartwright.

I got to see my friend PINQ.

This is called a 3D Printer. I got to make a bottle out of hot plastic with this machine! It was so exciting.

This guy was a little bit scary!

I got to meet R2D2 and BB-8! They are very cool droids.

These guys taught me how to play a new math game. It was a great trip with Mr. H!

Arrival in Austria

After a long, dark journey I could hardly wait to get to know the next class. Even before the children took me out of my transport box, I already noticed that I have now landed in a class in which another language is spoken. Soon I realized that I am in Austria and the children here speak German. The children of the fourth class very friendly welcomed me and spoke to me even a bit of English.

Great joy upon my arrival!

The first few days I was able to watch their lessons and learn how many things the children had already learned during this school year. During this time I met Pinqi, a monster, we two became pretty best friends, even if he was much bigger than me.

I found it particularly exciting that during the Christmas season all classes of our project sent Christmas cards to each other and I was allowed to be there when the children in Mrs. Landertinger's class received the letters from England, America and Linz. The children were very happy about every single letter.

Due to Christmas time, the children in Mrs. Landertinger's class have considered something special for me. I'm sure you know the song "Silent Night, Holy Night". But did you know that this song originally came from Austria? More specifically, it was first mentioned in Oberndorf almost 200 years ago, and this city is just a few kilometers from the school I am in apart. Therefore, the children took me on a "silent night trip", on which I could learn a lot about the song and its origin. This trip was very interesting for me as it was exciting to travel in a time that dates back 200 years.

A school like 200 years ago.
It was very cold, so I hide in the hood.

When the Christmas holidays began, I had to say goodbye to the children of the fourth grade. It was a very exciting time, which I could spend here in Austria.Thank God I was able to come home with Mrs. Landertinger during the holidays and celebrate Christmas with her and her family.

I also celebrated New Year's Eve with Mrs. Landertinger. I've considered whether it would be a good idea to travel with a rocket to my next destination, but ultimately I decided to go back into a package. I'm curious to see where I'll be going.

Phew! What a long travel! I loved my time seeing all the children in Mrs Headland’s class in Washington State, USA, but I must say I was a bit nervous when she told me that I was going to have to climb into that small parcel! Once Mr Headland explained to me all the fun I was going to  have in Mr Hartwright’s class in England I couldn’t wait and hopped my way happily into the parcel.

It was very dark. I could hear different postmen talking and it was so much fun getting onto the aeroplane!

After what seemed like ages, I could hear some little voices laughing and giggling. They sounded so excited! I started jumping up and down in the parcel, I couldn’t wait to get out and see all the children at Burton Manor Primary School, Stafford, England.

Wow, what a crazy day! These children work so hard! Every morning they come in and practice learning the time tables. I have to sit on the side during this time, so they can concentrate. The children then all answer the register, I do to. Sometimes they ask for school dinners and other days  they have sandwiches brought in from home.

I loved having school dinners, they were yummy! Different children took me to dinner and I even had a nibble of someones chocolate bar. Sometimes I even played on their playground. I loved playing hide and seek chase, hopscotch and Zombie tag. Zombie tag was a lot of fun because I had to be a zombie and try and catch the other children.

At Burton Manor Primary School every morning the children learn Maths and English. This was different for me as I kept calling it Math, like they did in Mrs Headland’s class.  They children were very good at counting and I couldn’t believe how quickly they could tell me their number bonds to 10!

For English they wrote about lots of different things. I loved reading the book Katie Morag delivers the mail and The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. My handwriting was not as neat as theirs though, I  think I need to practice a bit more.

As well as learning all about Maths and English the children do lots of learning to do in the afternoon. They were learning all about foods in different countries I didn’t realise how far some of  our food travels before it gets in our lunch box! I loved celebrating  Bonfire night, I learnt all about how a man call Guy Fawkes nearly blew up a very important building and their government. The children made some excellent firework pictures! We also learnt about the Hindu festival, Diwali and make some Diva lamps.

I am so tired from working so hard, but so excited about everything I have learnt and done with amazing children in England. I wish I could stay here for longer, but at the same time I am so excited to meet some new children in a new country, so this time I can’t wait to hop into the parcel. I wonder where I will go next?

Until Next Time...

It's so hard to say good-bye to Captain SMART! Our class almost kept him to ourselves because we've been having so much fun. Captain SMART has learned much about South Carolina history including how our state was named Carolina. Did you know it was named after King Charles in England many, many years ago? Captain SMART has also been learning how to multiply and divide and is even smarter than he was when he arrived. We'll miss him while he's gone but we can't wait to read all about his next adventures!!!
